Saturday scoresThe Seniors had a great 3 – 1 win over Vale of Leithen while the Amateurs lost two late goals to draw 3 – 3 with Uphall Station.John Grant made his first competitive start in centre midfield with Gavin Malin and Jack Beesley fit enough to make the bench. We started brightly and opened the scoring in the fifth minute when Omar Kader beat the right back and flicked a great cross the back post for Robbie Manson to head home. we continued to dominate playing as well as we have done for a few weeks. A great move down the right between Danny O’Donnell and Chris Anderson saw Chris’s cross volleyed against the bar by Keith McLeod. Vale were beginning to see more of the ball but just after the half hour mark Dean Hoskins’ corner was headed home by Ali McKinnon. Chris Flockhart then had to produce a flying save to maintain the two goal lead. Five minutes before the half time whistle we scored a third when Chris A’s drive from just outside the box hit Danny on the back and bounced into the corner of the net with the ‘keeper diving the wrong way. It was an excellent half however Vale came out stronger in the second half and pulled one back just before the hour mark when Lauder struck a great free kick which hit the bar, hit Chris on the back and bounced into the net. Vale had a couple of half chances in the last 20 minutes however we kept the ball well and only our final ball prevented us adding to our lead. The only disappointing moment of the day was an injury to Kerr Dodds in an innocuous tackle. It looks like a medial ligament injury which would keep him out for several weeks. Jack come through 25 minutes unscathed which was a bonus. Chris Anderson won the Malt and Hops man of the match for a masterful display in the free role playing off Keith. Team: Flockhart, O’Donnel, Hoskins, Sivewright, McKinnon, Dodds (Beesley 65), Manson, Anderson, McLeod, Kader, Grant Subs not used: Malin, Seeley, Fusco, Finnie The Amateurs goalscorers were Martin Douglas, Andy Hornell and John Hall as we continue to climb the table. Unfortunately our ‘keeper was sent off with ten minutes to go for a handball outside the box when we were 3 – 1 ahead. |
