Management thoughts on our win at Meadowbank.

“Considering the week we have all had Sam and I were delighted by the effort and commitment shown by the players yesterday. We always find it difficult at Meadowbank in the league and when City got their soft penalty I had memories of giving away a 3 goal lead a couple of seasons ago going through my head. I needn’t have worried as the boys saw the game out comfortably.

Donal Henretty has been carrying a couple of injuries and with Danny O’Donnell slightly off the boil the last couple of games we decided to bring Scott Fusco and Chris Anderson back into the starting line-up. Young Jordan Finnie is carrying a knock and although on the bench we decided not to risk putting him on at any stage. Our only disappointment of the afternoon was our defence being denied the clean sheet their display deserved.

The pitch was fiery and in the first half it was hard for either team to put many passing moves together. Kerr Dodds says he meant his cross shot but if there was an dubiety about his intent there was none about Gavin Malin’s wonderful strike. After the break we played with more authority, kept possession better and when Keith McLeod latched on to a great pass from Chris Anderson he put us out of site. It’s not often we score 3 goals from outside the area but we did yesterday and it’s pleasing that we are sharing the goals around.

City will cause a lot of teams problems especially at home this season so the 3 points were very, very important for us. We now look forward to Leith at home next Saturday.”
