Management thoughts on our first home game on our new pitch.

Mike says –

“The thing that pleased Sam and I most yesterday wasn’t the nine goals, nor the excellent new playing surface but the fact we actually played and concentrated for 90 minutes. The players are fed up with me moaning about giving the opposition hope by dropping our performance levels and concentration for periods of games. It’s cost us dearly this season with three or four wonder strikes flying past Flocks. Yesterday we played for 90 minutes and reaped the rewards.

Despite the final score I thought Tynecastle played some nice football at times. Their players looked like they enjoyed playing on the new 3G surface – well until the last quarter – and Flocks and to be one his toes a few times in the first half. Tynecastle play the game in the right manner with the ball mainly on the ground and I hope they sort themselves out both on and off the park.

With the Scottish coming up Gavin going off is a concern. Hopefully his shoulder will settle down in the next couple of days but other than his injury it was a very pleasing afternoon.  The new surface is a pleasure to play on especially when it’s wet and we got better as the game went on. Keith McLeod got his first start and next Saturday Scott Fusco will come in for Ali McKinnon as we try to get as many players as we can match fit before the Scottish. Before that we play Forfar in a bounce game tomorrow to further familiarize ourselves with our new surface and Scott, Dr Jonathan and Chris Smith will start that game.

It was a pleasant Saturday evening with 10 goals to celebrate after Mackail-Smith kept our Euro 2012 hopes alive. Good luck to Scotland on Tuesday and good luck to our Under 19’s against St Johnstone later today.”
