Management thoughts on a promising display at Yarrow ParkMike says –“I think yesterday is the first time we have put 90 minutes together this season. We have played well in spells during most games but against Selkirk we played at the right pace, with the right amount of commitment and control for the entire game. Sam and I were happy to be a goal up at half-time because Selkirk were playing well and the movement of their front two were causing us problems. Our second goal just after the break could have done one of two things. We could have thought game over, sat back and let Selkirk into the game or it could have been a springboard for us to keep the pace up and go for more goals. Thankfully we went for more goals and Gavin completed his hat-trick before he got the hook. Kerr Dodds has been outstanding for us so far this season so we were very lucky that Gavin appeared on the scene just after Kerr picked up his injury. The only disappointment on the day was not to get a clean sheet Flocks and his back four deserved. Gavin Malin and Stewart Fowlie are back from China, Danny O’Donnell got his first game time of the season following his foot operation, Keith McLeod is about to start light running after his hernia op and David Etale sent a text yesterday wishing the boys all the best and to say the surgery he got on Thursday was successful. Our season was always going to be a bit haphazard at the start what with players moving on and coming in, player availability due to injury an international tournament as well as playing our first dozen or so games away from home. Players are now returning and those new to the team are starting to settle in so we hope we can push on and show a bit more consistency. That’s going to be very hard with two trips to Gretna in the next three weeks but that’s what we must aim for. With midweek games out the way Mike Irving and Eric Ewing will get more time to spend with the players getting Sam, myself and Mike’s ideas on the game over to them. We have a very good group to work with and the management team are really looking forward to the rest of the season.” Mike |
