Malin steals the show in Selkirk

Posted on Saturday, August 27th, 2011

A strong second half performance from the Seniors helped secure a strong 4-1 victory away to Selkirk today in the Premier Division.

Gavin Malin returned from China this week and went straight into the starting eleven to replace Kerr Dodds who picked up an injury during the week against Civil Service Strollers.

The game was initially an even affair with neither team creating any clear chances at goal however as the half went on the pace of our attack started to cause the Selkirk defence problems.

On 30 minutes Chris Anderson was brought down in the box by John Dodds in the Selkirk goal who gave away a penalty and received a yellow card for his trouble.

Gavin Malin stepped up and fired the ball home from the resulting spot kick in the 32nd minute. The scoreline remained the same until half time.

While it may have taken us a while to get going in the first half, that certainly wasn’t an issue in the second. Donal Henretty chased down a pass back to the keeper and managed to square the ball to Omar Kader who fired home to make it 2-0 just 12 seconds into the second half.

On 63 minutes we went further ahead, Scott Fusco driving into the box before cutting the ball back to the edge of the box for Gavin Malin to curl in his second.

10 minutes later and Malin completed his hat-trick. Jack Beesley played a neat ball through for Gavin to collect inside the box and fire home his third of the afternoon to make it 4-0.

Selkirk managed to pull a goal back in injury time with a neat vollied shot from the edge of the box, however it was too little too late and we held out for an important 3 points.
