Management thoughts on our first league win

Mike says –

“We hadn’t won our first league game of the season for quite a few years and as we headed for the changing rooms at half-time last night it looked like it wasn’t going to happen any time soon. After a bright start and a Chris Anderson goal we stopped playing. Strollers stepped up their game, competed for the ball much better than us and deservedly equalised with a spectacular 25 yarder. I don’t often raise my voice during the interval but I did lat night. Sam playing the “good cop” wasn’t quite as vocal but also put the point across that what we’d shown in the first half wasn’t good enough.

We were better after the break. We had a slight wind advantage and The Strollers inevitably dropped the pace a bit but we were quicker to the ball, more creative and overall put in a much better second half shift. Jack gave us the lead again but don’t get me wrong, the home side got a lift from the penalty miss and nearly equalised on two occasions before Jordan finished the game off.

As I said at the top it’s the first time in a few years since we won our first league game and we now look forward to a trip to Yarrow Park this weekend. Can we get a 90 minutes performance against Selkirk? Time will tell.”
