Management thoughts on progressing in the League CupMike says –“I’ve just listened to my Rickie Fulton comments after the game and can only say that in the cold light of a fresh day things look a little different. Don’t get me wrong there is still disappointment but not at the players but for them. I’m disappointed that the effort, commitment and no lack of skill they showed over 90 minutes yesterday didn’t produce a more emphatic result and enjoyable afternoon. In a game we controlled for long spells we found ourselves in danger of exiting a cup we hold. Craigroyston had nothing to lose and when George threw players forward near the end anything could have happened. Our fitness levels are getting better. Too many players missed parts of our pre-season preparation for various reasons and Sam and I are thankful we’ve started the season with a League Cup section. We were always going to give players a chance but not being able to field anything like a settled team hasn’t helped the new players find their feet. Sam and I have been more than happy with the new signings but it takes time for the odd new player to settle in. With seven regulars (Sivvy, Danny, Cloudie, Gavin and the gang of “departed” three) from last season’s successful team unable to start yesterday you can see how difficult it is for the new boys. Until we have everyone available, which won’t be next week, Sam and I can’t even think about our “best” starting eleven. Whatever happens in The Vale’s last section game we have qualified for the later stages of the League Cup so we can turn our thoughts to the Premier League. The Strollers had a very good win away at Fernieside yesterday and will be up for the game on Tuesday. More on that tomorrow.” Mike |
