Semi final place confirmed with victory over Heriot-Watt

Posted on Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

The Seniors secured our place in the league cup semi final with a scrappy 2-0 victory over Heriot-Watt University at the Academy tonight.

In a very similar game to that against Lothian last tuesday night, the first half was largely uneventful. The Uni did have the ball in the net but the effort was ruled out for offside. Just seconds later Ross Archibald headed wide when a Deano cross found him unmarked at the back post.

Into the second half, and just like last week Ross Archibald headed our first goal. Chris Townsley rose in the box to head a corner toward the goal, Ross was standing on the line to ensure that the ball crossed the line.

Once again, just like last week’s game Donal Henretty scored the second and decisive goal of the evening. Deano whipped a low cross in from the left wing and Donal got his toe to it first in the box to fire home.

We now progress to the League Cup semi final and will face Preston Athletic on the 21st May following their 2-0 victory over Lothian Thistle.

Malt and Hops Man of the Match: Donal Henretty. A hard working performance upfront and thoroughly deserved his goal.

Team: Flockhart, O’Donnell (Andrews), Hoskins, Townsley, Sivewright, Malin, Kader (Smith), Manson, Archibald, Henretty (Halliday), Beesley Unused: McGarrie, Fowlie
