Management thoughts on our win against Heriot-Watt today.Mike says –“I know everyone wasn’t involved in every game but as a team to put on a performance like that as our 4th games in 6 days was nothing short of magnificent. Don’t get me wrong, Heriot-Watt are low on confidence but 4 of our guys started Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday with Gavin Malin even able to squeeze in 45 minutes for Scottish Universities on Monday. A great performance and some top drawer goals. What about Archie? I’m now wishing Sam and I had put the number 9 shirt on his back about 6 years earlier than the 12th February 2011. He’s on fire, scored his first hat-trick for the club and I think his time as a fullback are long gone. Big Chris Townsley scored the sort of header we’re looking for every time he goes up for a corner and Gavin dispatched his penalty Charlie Adam style – mark 2 (if you watched the Spurs v Blackpool game this evening). Our hard run of games has come with a penalty. By trying to rest players and shift things around we dropped points at Fernieside and Peffermill as well as picking up knocks and injuries. Keith McLeod needs a hernia operation and his hope to last until the end of the year when his business is a bit quieter might be a forlorn one. Keith had to come off at half-time today and we’ll just have to see how he feels over the next couple of days. Alex King and David Etale have suffered long/short term injuries and Danny O’Donnell, Ross Archibald and Donal Henretty are all struggling for Tuesday. On the plus side the young guys who’ve come in this week, Jordan Finnie, Liam Donnelly, Sean Wringe and Andrew Sinclair have all done the club proud and themselves no harm for their long term prospects with the club. We now look forward to playing Heriot-Watt again, this time in the League Cup on Tuesday. Omar Kader is up from London for a fortnight making him available for our next two midweek games but as for the state of play with the rest of our squad, there will be a few phone calls between now and Tuesday. More of that on tomorrow or Tuesday morning.” Mike |
