Management thoughts on Lothian at the Academy tonight.Mike says –“Can the players come down from the high of Sunday to play what some may see as three unimportant league games in five days? Unimportant and irrelevant games because the league is already won might be the consensus but nothing could be further from the truth. A game of football is a game of football and is there to be won. Who starts each game is a different story and Sam and I will think long and hard about the selection for Lothian tonight, Edinburgh Uni on Thursday and Heriot-Watt on Saturday. It’s not the tiredness that’s the worry as the King Cup Final is not until the 18th May; it’s the chance of players picking up injuries with so many games in such a short space of time that’s the real concern. Lothian sit proudly in third place in the league and they’ll be out to consolidate that position over their three remaining games. We drew with them a few weeks back at Saughton in the corresponding league fixture and despite equalising in injury time the home side were not lucky that evening. Lothian were better than ourselves for long spells that night and our lot will be reminded of that before we kick off this evening. David and Alex will miss the rest of the season and with Omar and Robbie unavailable Mark Burns will come into the squad along with Jordan Finnie and another Under 19 player Alex Cunningham thinks deserves a step up. Sam and I will take a head count, check for any knocks picked up at Tynecastle before finalising the side this evening but the players who take the park don’t need us to tell them what a hard evening they are going to have. Forget “El Clasico” and get yourself down to Spartan’s Academy tonight.” Mike |
