10 man Spartans just lose out to Whitehill

Posted on Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

The Seniors just lost out to Whitehill, our first EOS defeat since December 2009, after having to spend over half the match with ten men.

After a dominant start and having several shots at the target Keith McLeod made the most of a missed defensive header to fire us in front in the 32rd minute.

Keith was shown a straight red ten minutes later when he was judged to have elbowed a Whitehill defender after being fouled himself and winning a freekick.

Whitehill used the extra man to their advantage and eventually equalised in the 66th minute after having a series of corner kicks.

We continued to look dangerous and had several other chances to take the lead. Whitehill also nearly scored a freekick when their centre half volley a clearance off his on cross bar.

Whitehill continued to press for a winner which eventually came in the 89th minute, again from another corner which was pocked home from 2 yards.

The Malt and hops Man of the match: Donal Henretty for a hard working performance. Certainly we didn’t look quite as creative after he went off and he continued to cause the Whitehill defence problems even when they had the extra man advantage.

Team: Flockhart, O’Donnell, Hoskins, Townsley, Sivewright, Malin, Henretty (Etale), Manson, Archibald, McLeod, Beesley Unused: Fowlie, Finnie, Smith, McGarrie
