Management thoughts on Whitehill in the King CupMike says –“Tomorrow we play the third of 4 games in 9 days. Playing Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday, Tuesday isn’t ideal at the best of times but the importance of the games makes the task doubly difficult. Whitehill v Spartans or Spartans v Whitehill is as big as it gets in East of Scotland football. It doesn’t matter if it’s the King Cup, the League Title or the Your Turn to Wash the Yellow Bibs Trophy; these games are as competitive as they come at our level. I’ve seen Whitehill twice recently, beating Edinburgh Uni at Rosewell and going down narrowly at Meadowbank to Edinburgh City. On both occasions they were big, strong and took the game to the opposition. Although there are one or two new faces most of their squad have taken part in games between the clubs before and know what to expect. I also don’t think Rab Paget will be overly concerned at our visit to Ferguson Park. As manager of The Vale he helped inflict our last domestic cup defeat at the Academy last season. We expect a very difficult afternoon. A couple of players are unavailable and three or four are carrying knocks and strains from this weeks exertions so Sam and I will leave it until an hour and a half before the kick off before deciding on the line-up. The one or two who were rested for the Civil game will come back in but we may still be short of numbers. As cover and with this being a cup game, Sam and I signed forms for the club last night and may be called into action at some time tomorrow. Look out for the long throw or the trailing leg should either of us take to the pitch. We are all looking forward to our trip to Rosewell.” Mike |
