Management thoughts on last night’s draw.Mike says –“If you miss gilt edged chances to put a game out of reach you can hardly complain if the opposition fight to the very last whistle and grab a share of the points. When Lothian equalised in the 92nd minute my great disappointment for Spartans and our players was accompanied by a grudging admiration for the fighting spirit shown by Chick and Fraser’s team. It was a nice night for a game of football but those who were there know we didn’t really get that. The playing surface is the same for both teams and Lothian adapted to what was on offer better than our lot. Despite that we held the lead for a long period and had the better of the chances in the second half. We had one or two players off the boil but such is the consistency they have all shown this season we can only hope this was a blip. Lothian fought tooth and nail on the night and it was hard to decry their celebrations at the final whistle. For us we have a cup final on Sunday to concentrate on and Sam and I will attempt to massage a few bruised ego’s on Thursday at the Academy. Finally I’m from Carrick Knowe and in my youth Saughton Enclosure was akin to Wembley for me and my mates. As young boys we used to sneak in and watch the “big” games in awe of the playing surface and the arena itself. I felt sad and sorry last night. Sad at the state of the pitch and sorry for a very good Lothian team who have to contend with it every second week.” Mike |
