“It’s with interest and much amusement that I’ve been reading a thread on a popular fans forum which started with Saturday’s East of Scotland results and has been highjacked by some supporters saying we have retained the title already. This quite rightly hasn’t gone down too well in some quarters.

Needless to say those who frequent the Spartans home dressing room know we are a million miles away from retaining the title and our minds are well focussed on the difficult job at hand.

We sit on 28 points after 10 games but no fewer that 5 other teams can reach 50 points or pass that number so mathematics would suggest there is a long way to go. With no disrespect to Heriot-Watt intended, even they who are bottom of the table at the moment can reach 38 points, 10 more than our current total.

Stirling and Edinburgh Universities, Whitehill, The Vale, Selkirk and every other team in our division can be assured we admire the optimism of  some supporters but are not kidded by the size of the task we face. Having said all that we wouldn’t want to swap places with anyone but know that the results this weekend at Innerleithen and next week at Rosewell could turn the league table on its head.

Banter between fans on a forum is banter between fans on a forum and nothing more. Winning games of football and football leagues requires much more than written words on a forum or on this website.

We’ll attempt to walk the walk and even then leave it to others to talk the talk.”
