Management thoughts on Meadowbank today.Mike says –“Firstly, why were so many East of Scotland games off today? City and ourselves decided to wait until the match referee turned up an hour before the kick off and let him decide. Before I left home I couldn’t believe how many games were already off on the EOS website especially when the temperature was rising and the early morning frost was disappearing quickly. This is only an observation and not a complaint but it’s obvious that more teams than Spartans will be playing mid-week games for a couple of months before the season ends. After the game Sam and I sat the players down and congratulated them. I’ve spoken to them about the standards they have set themselves and how they have maintained them a few times this season but after the game today I told them they had raised the bar. Sam and I will expect more of the same as we continue to try achieve as much success as last season and maybe a little more. It was a strange game. City and ourselves were both playing well when Robbie Ross really should have scored after about half an hour. Soon after Dougie Gair hit the top of the bar and Sam and I were settling for 0-0 at half-time. We got a free kick 25 yards out on 41 minutes and Jack (Beesley) curled it in the top corner. Then a minute into injury time Omar (Kader) was clattered in the box, Cloudie (Keith McLeod) put the pen away and suddenly we were in easy street. To help Sam and I at half-time were the memories of losing a 3-0 lead at Meadowbank a couple of years back and that concentrated the minds of the players. Archie (Ross Archibald) put the game beyond City with 2 great goals and although Andy Howat pulled one back Cloudie completed the scoring in injury time. We played well today but the ball ran kindly for us and we know that won’t happen every week. We now have The Vale away followed by a visit to Rosewell and both these games will tell us how good a hold we have on retaining our league title. This morning I wasn’t sure if we’d get a game of football played or not but we did and for that we are all grateful.” Mike |
