Good win for Seniors, great win for Juniors but Ammies go down

The Seniors made heavy weather of beating Gala Fairydean 2 – 1 in the third round of the SFA Regional Cup. Into the starting line up came Stewart Fowlie, Chris Smith, Keith Mcleod and Omar Kader from Wednesday’s line up and it took only 6 minutes for us to take the lead. An inswinging Dean Hoskins corner was headed home by Chris Townsley. We had most of the possession in the remainder of the half but created few chances, Omar Kader coming closest when he headed over the bar from close range. Just on half time we managed a second, the ball bouncing about in the box before falling to Gavin Malin whose half hit shot ended up in the corner of the net. The second half started in similar fashion to the first. We had most of the play but created few chances, under 19 player Andrew Sinclair was introduced for his debut and he showed some good touches. Gala slowly started to get a foothold in the game as ex Spartans player Keith Boyes began to dominate in midfield. With 20 minutes to go Gala had their first shot on target when Anderson’s effort was held by the flying Chris Flockhart. Anderson then became the creator when his cross was headed home by Gibson with 11 minutes left. We seemed in control but in the last minute another ex Spartan Mitch Faichney had two chances to score when his first effort was blocked by Chris, and his seond goal bound effort was knocked away by Deano. It was a difficult day to choose a Spartans man of the match but in the end the Malt and Hops man of the match was awarded to Robbie Manson for a tidy performance. One of the few positives from the day was that Alex King’s head knock doesn’t seem too bad and he will be ready for the vist to Keith next week.
Team: Flockhart, O’Donnell (Archibald 45), Hoskins, Fowlie, Townsley, Kader, Beesley, King (Malin 32), Manson, McLeod, Smith (Sinclair 66) Subs not used: Finnie, McGarrie

The Juniors pulled off one of their best ever results with a superb 5 – 1 win over seond placed Fauldhouse. Gary Shanks opened the scoring early on after a great run and a hat trick from Mark Cowan in seven minutes put us 4 ahead by half time. Fauldhouse pulled one back in the second half but Paul Roberts completed the rout. A full report is available.

The Amatuers had a dreadful first half performance, we were 6 – 1 down to Bridgend at one point before coming back to lose 6 – 4. Lukas Zuk and Iain Cartwright both scored twice but we need to tighten up defensively to win promotion.
