Exciting game sees us maintain top spot

Posted on Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

In a fast flowing game we overcame Stirling University 2 – 1 tonight.

Missing a couple of attacking players we started with a 4 4 1 1 formation, Jack Beesley and Ross Archibald encouraged to attack from the flanks.

We controlled the game from the start with some great passing play, Alex King revelling in his return to the starting line up. It took us just under 15 minutes to take the lead. gavin malin had a shot handled and he stepped up to drive home the spot kick. Donal Henretty and Ross both came close before the Uni came back into the game and their set pieces were causing us problems as Dean Hoskins and Chris Townsley had both to stretch to clear dangerous moves. We were again on top at the start of the second half and scored a second in 53 minutes. A corner was only partly cleared and when the ball was knocked back into the box Gavin was again on hand to drive the ball home. It looked like we settled for the win as we sat back althopugh Gavin might have notched his hat trick when his lob went narrowly wide. The Uni did pull one back with two minutes left. Parr-Gallacher scoring from the spot after he was brought down by Kevin Sivewright. We survived the last couple of minutes but a knock to David Etale looked worrying. The Malt and Hops man of the match going to Gavin Malin – two goals and he looked very dangerous supporting Donal and then David. Team: Flockhart, O’Donnell, Hoskins, Sivewright, Townsley, Manson, King, Beesley (Smith 80), Henretty (Etale 67), Malin, Archibald (Fowlie 72) Subs not used: McGarrie, Finnie
