Back to 3 wins…4 including the Girls

The Seniors beat Heriot Watt Uni 3 – 0, the Juniors came through 1 – 0 against Tranent while the Amateurs won their cup game 5 – 4 aet with iain Cartwright scoring all 5!
Only one change in the Seniors line up with David missing so in came Ross Archibald to play in a right midfield berth. Other than some passes which went astray there was little action until the 12th minute when HWU left back Dom Samuel brought down Donal Henretty and took exception to the referee’s whistle and gave him a volley of abuse….a straight red card followed. We didnt play well in the first half with the HWU back line and midfield four absorbing the play well. We came out a different team in the second half and kept the play shorter, keeping the ball. Robbie Manson hid the bar with a header, Donal Henretty fired wide from inside the 6 yard box and Gavin Malin had a fine shot well saved by the HWU ‘keeper. To add to our firepower Jack Beesley came on on the hour mark and created a spark. Five minutes later he had notched the first with a delightful chip from the corner of the box. We continued to dominate although when the Uni sent on a second striker with ten to go they created a little trouble with two corners. Two late goals gave a slightly unfair scoreline, firstly Keith Mcleod driving home when the ball came to him off a defender and then Keith squared for Ross Archibald to fire home. Despite his booking for dissent the malt and Hops man of the match went to Kevin Sivewright who controlled our defensive shape throighout the match. Team: Flockhart, O’Donnell (Beesley 60), Hoskins, Sivewright, Townsley, Kader, Malin, Manson, Archibald, Henretty (Smith 80), McLeod Subs not used: Fowlie, McGarrie, King
Garry has already posted footage of our first two goals on the forum, Garry’s angle for Jack’s goal is perfect.

Kenny Young scored the Juniors goal in the first half in a tousy game with 12 bookings. A full report to follow.

The Amateurs progress to the fourth round of the Challenge Cup with a 5 -4 win against Penicuik Utd…Iain Cartwright scoring an amazing five goals to move well clear at the top of the club scoring charts.

In the Girls Under 13 Scottish Cup quarter final we overcame Aberdeen East End 2 – 1 after extra time, a fantastic effort in an really exciting game. A crowd of over 100 enjoyed the action with both teams playing some great football.
