King Cup win but Women go downIn a tough encounter at Rosewell we beat Stirling Uni 2 – 0 to lift the King Cup.From Thursday’s team David Etale and Gavin Malin returned to the starting line up in place of Alex King and Donal Henretty. We opened the scoring after only 8 minutes when Keith Mcleod scored from the spot. A through ball from Robbie Manson was picked up by David Etale and as he burst through the Stirling defender was adjudged to have brought him down just inside the box. It was a soft award but Keith tucked the penalty inside the ‘keepers right hand post. Stirling were having more of the ball but defensively we were very strong. Gavin had to go off after 23 minutes when he dislocated his shoulder as he fell and Alex King came on. There were few clear cut chances in the remainder of the half as both teams cancelled each other out. The second half opened with Stirling in the decendancy but again without a cutting edge. Our back five were very disciplined, the closest the Uni came was a Keiller free kick which Chris Flockhart flicked over the bar. The second came on 75 minutes when Keith McLeod played in Omar Kader who knocked the ball past the ‘keeper from an angle. Omar picked up the first booking of his career for celebrating by taking off his shirt. The second goal seemed to knock Stirling and we kept the ball well as the game petered out. Dan Gerrard won the man of the match for a superb display at the back. Stirling had shown they will be up their challenging next season as we’re sure coach Raleigh Gowrie will strengthen his squad further. We had played well and our experience told in the end. Another cup final on Wednesday to look forward to, and with Lothian refreshed after a break we will have to be on top of our game to win our third cup in a week. Team: Flockhart, O’Donnell, Hoskins, Gerrard, Sivewright, Archibald, Manson (McAuley 76), Malin (King 25), Kader, Etale (Henretty 66), Mcleod Subs not used: Vinneli, Fowlie Att 275 Our Womens team lost 3 – 2 to Hibs. We were 3 – 0 down at half time and despite a great second half we couldn’t snatch a point. |
