Good day at the Academy but out of the Junior Cup

Posted on Saturday, October 10th, 2009

The Senior team kept up the pressure on Lothian Thistle at the top of the EoS league with a resounding 5 – 1 win over Coldstream today, goals coming from Dean Hoskins 2, Gavin Malin, Omar Kader and an OG.

In the Scottish Junior Cup we lost 1 – 0 at Larkhall in a close encounter while our Amateur team won 3 – 1 against Meadow Star to move up the table with goals from Chris McIntyre 2 and Dean Gibson.

At the Academy Mike and Sam freshened up the starting XI with returns for Sean McAuley, Omar Kader and Dean Hoskins.  Coldstream were first to strike however when John Crawford scored witha  fantastic drive from 20 yards in only the fifth minute.  Although we had plenty of possession we were creating only half chances as Coldstream were defending well.  Ross Archibald had an effort cleared off the line before we equalised on the half hour mark.  An excellent run from Omar Kader finished with a dangerous cross which was missed by Keith McLeod before their right back David Brown volleyed it into the net from close range.  We then took control and our swift passing game looked very dangerous.

Dean Hoskins scored the second on the 37th minute mark when he drilled home a Robbie Manson pass.  Early in the second half Deano scored his second, a trademark free kick.  Further goals followed from Omar and then Gavin Malin, close range efforts after excellent build up.  Keith did come close to notching on a number of occasions but ‘keeper Lumsden was in top form.  Man of the match today was Dean Hoskins who took his goals very well and provided several dangerous crosses.  Team: Flockhart, Archibald, Gerrard, Sivewright, Fowlie, McAuley, Manson (Smith 68), Malin (Preston 78), McLeod, Kader (McKibben 68), Hoskins Subs not used: Henretty, O’Donnel Crowd 202

The Juniors were disappointed to come home from Larkhall out of the Scottish Junior Cup.  A crowd of over 150 provided a challenging atmosphere but as an attacking force we missed the suspended Adam Perry and injured Nick Reid.  The decisive goal came in the 35th minute and despite a gallant effort we couldnt force their ‘keeper into action.  Team: Paterek, Cruickshank, Sutherland, Steele, Hutchison, Antoni (Hair), Scott, Osborne, K Young, Moffat, Cartwright (Bannon) Subs not used: Boyes, Robertson, G Young, McLeod, Douglas

A reminder that our Womens team take on Rangers tomorrow at the academy ko 2pm, admission £4/32 and season tickets are valid.  Rangers beat us in last seasons cup semi final, a chance for revenge.
