Under 13’s progress in Scottish Cup

Spartans U13 8 (yes eight) Thornton 1
Spartans U13 team progressed to the last thirty two of the Scottish Cup after a very impressive performance against Thornton.
Spartans Chairman Craig Graham, Vice President Colin Hutchinson and first team star Donal Henretty were all watching on the sidelines as the Spartan stars of the future played their opposition off the park in every department.
Following a four all draw in the first match Spartans were keen to score quickly. It took only 10 minutes for the ball to be in the back of the net. A great shot from outside the box by Jamie Dishington came back off the post, the ball landed at the feet of Peter Connolly who placed his shot past the Keeper.

The 7s have been going for 10 years and every year has the under 20 teams from a number of European teams (last year this included West Ham, Villa, Celtic, Rangers and PSV). The games are played on Saturday 30th May and Sunday 31st May with us arriving to acclimatise on the Wednesday beforehand. A strong squad of players have volunteered to pay their way and come along and a great rate has been agreed for any fans wanting to join the party. Other Asian teams make up the tournament - the final list of clubs will be announced by Easter. The website for last season’s tournament is www.hksoccersevens.com.

Spartans started with the 3-5-2 formation they played against Coldstream last week. Henretty, Manson and Kader all returned to the starting line up. New signing Sam Woods started on the bench but wasn’t to feature in the game.
Spartans took the lead in the 23rd minute. A good pass from Danny O’Donnell set up Kader who crossed to the back post. Donal Henretty headed back towards goal where Robbie Manson rose above the Lothian defence to head home the opener and his first ever goal for Spartans.

Our 3rd XI had an amazing comeback, 4 - 1 down at half time WITH the wind. Saturday 15th November at City Park ko 1.30pm
November 13, 2008
We welcome Lothian Thistle to City Park this weekend in the Quarter Final of the SFA South Regional up. Having beaten Eyemouth and Dalbeattie to get to this stage, we now face the Saughton side who put out current Premier league champions Whitehill Welfare in the previous round.
Mike Lawson and Sam Lynch have a near full squad to select from and new signing Sam Woods could feature in the 16. With a very tough trip to Elgin just two weeks away the co-managers could use this game to continue to find the strongest side.
The returning Keith McLeod was on the score sheet last week but good performances from Struan Preston and the ever hard working and dangerous Nicky Walker should give a welcomed headache up front.
Manson and Henretty were rested last week due to slight knocks however both players could feature this weekend.
Manager Mike Lawson said earlier this week he expected a tough game from a side with nothing to prove
“It’s a cup-tie, all the pressure is on the home side so we can expect a stress free, enthusiastic performance from our visitors which will test the ability of a Spartans squad which is slowing coming together”.
Kick off this Saturday is at 13:30 and if the result is level after ninty minutes we will have extra time and if needed, a penalty shoot out.
