The Spartans Community Football Academy

... coming summer 2008




In December 2005 Spartans announced plans to build a new home that will benefit both the club and the wider community of northern Edinburgh. The Spartans Community Football Academy will be built at a site next to Ainslie Park Leisure Centre on Pilton Drive and will cost about £2 million. It is expected to be ready by the end of season 2007/2008. The new facility will incorporate a fully enclosed stadium which meets SFA criteria, with a grass pitch, floodlights, seating for 500 spectators and an overall capacity of 3,000. A full size, floodlit artificial pitch will be installed adjacent to the main playing area and the accommodation will incorporate six changing rooms, a club room and a committee room. Gordon Strachan, who grew up in the area, is patron of the Spartans Community Football Academy.

How to find City Park

The first team play at City Park, which is located on Ferry Road in the Inverleith area of north Edinburgh. It is approximatelly 20-25 minutes walk heading north of Princes Steet. The ground can be found on the north side of Ferry Road about 400 yards east of Crewe Toll.

By car: From the west, head into Edinburgh along Glasgow Road (A8 signposted City Centre. At Maybury Junction turn left onto Maybury Road and follow A902 signposted Forth Road Bridge. At Barnton Junction turn right onto Queensferry Road - A90 and follow signs for City Centre. At Blackhall Junction traffic signals branch left onto the A902 (signposted Leith). At Crewe Toll roundabout take the last exit into Ferry Road, and after passing a Safeway and Pilton Drive on the left (beside Winnelstrae). A small lane here leads to City Park's main entrance.

• Nearest train station: Edinburgh Haymarket.

• Nearest bus station: St Andrews Bus station.

• Bus routes: The LRT No 27 from the city centre goes past City Park, and takes about 15 minutes.

• Nearest pub: Gladstone’s. Only five minutes' walk from City Park
