SPFL fixtures released: Spartans open historic season at home against Clyde FC

The Spartans will make their historic cinch SPFL 2 debut against Clyde FC at Ainslie Park on Saturday 5^th August. 

This morning’s fixture release then sees Douglas Samuel’s side travel to Dumbarton ahead of locking horns with Elgin City back home in North Edinburgh before ending their opening month in the SPFL at Balmoor Stadium where they take on Peterhead.

Peterhead, the only team in the division we have never played, are of course in our Viaplay Cup group, meaning we’ll enjoy no fewer than 5 games against them this season.

The 10 teams will play each other four times across a regular season that concludes ten months later in Methil against East Fife.

Other notable first round fixtures include ending a 42 year wait to once again play Stenhousemuir in a competitive fixture when we play the Ochilview side at Ainslie Park on 2nd September and a chance to rekindle old friendships against fellow previous Pyramid promotion winners Bonnyrigg Rose at home on 30th September.

Road trips are not in short supply this season of course. Circa 1,500 miles will have been travelled throughout the campaign, with initial trips to Elgin City, Peterhead and Stranraer scheduled for 16th December, 26th August and 7th October respectively.

The festive period will see a Christmas cracker in the Capital against Stranraer on 23rd December and the New Year will see Spartans first footing Peterhead in the first game of 2024 on the 6th January.
