Lowland League | Spartans head East for belter against TranentThe Spartans head East this weekend where they will meet Tranent Juniors as the big Lowland League games keep on coming as the season enters its final few fixtures of a rollercoaster campaign. Both sides have been in the business end of the table for the bulk of the season, with the Belters grabbing their first term in the Lowland League by the short n curlies. For Spartans gaffer Dougie Samuel, the twists and turns of a lengthy campaign that began in July saw his side slowly climb the ladder and go into the game on Saturday against Tranent on the back of a sixteen match unbeaten run in the competition. There were midweek fixtures for both sides, with Tranent going down 5-2 on the road at fellow title challengers Stirling University whilst an Under 20s fuelled Spartans XI had a positive second half in a 2-5 defeat at home to Dundonald Bluebell in the Qualifying Cup. Last time out It was honours even at Ainslie Park in an action packed encounter that saw Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh look on as the visitors took the lead shortly before the break courtesy of a Cammy Ross goal. Midway through the second half, Bradley Whyte levelled proceedings when his inswinging corner evaded everyone in the box and landed in the Tranent net, much to the joy of the Under 14s Dishington team who were match day mascots. Match Day Info Venue: Foresters Park, Tranent, EH33 1JB. Admission £8 / £5. Your Spartan Army voice on the sideline this weekend will truly be that 12th man supporting role. A win is crucial with just three games to go. We hope to see you there getting behind the boys. |
