Lowland League | Russell ready for Gretna tussleIt’s Sunday service for Spartans this weekend in their penultimate home Lowland League match of the season where they will face Gretna 2008 (3.00pm KO). Over recent years the fixture has delivered its fair share of talking points, from fox deposits to ghost goals and a half century of goals shared between Sunday’s sides. Looking to add to the Spartans tally is Cammy Russell. The talented playmaker has been one of the pivotal architects behind the current unbeaten run and is keen to ensure that continues ahead of his Sunday roast. “Even if we weren’t on the run we are on, we’d be confident going into the game. “Our recent form has been brilliant and that’s been down to the hard work the guys have been putting in week after week, both in training and in every set of ninety minutes too. “It doesn’t matter now on what’s been happening in the last couple of weeks with a tough round of matches, every game is a new one to focus on. There are only four left in the league, we go out and enjoy them and its four opportunities to pick up the maximum points each time.” Sandwiched in-between the impressive league form has been some cup tie successes too. Cammy was rested from the side that defeated Stoneyburn on Tuesday night, but he was impressed by what he saw. “Those of us not in the squad on Tuesday night came along to watch the game on Tuesday night and thought the young lads who slotted in done really well. “Ben Lamont scored an absolute screamer and I think anyone watching would agree that none of them looked in any way out of place which is testament to themselves and obviously to the coaches at 20s as well. “However those games mean nothing if we don’t go out and do the business on Sunday.” Kick-off on Sunday is at 3.00pm. The Cafe/Bar will be open before and after the game. Admission prices are £9 / £6 and Match Programme, at just £2, available at the gate. |
