Lowland League Cup | Spartans face Students in opening group tie

Posted on Friday, March 4th, 2022

The Spartans take a break from League duty when they head across the capital to take on old friends Edinburgh University in the first game of their Lowland League Cup group stage.

Its been a mixed bag of results for both sides going into the tie which starts off the road to silverware, in a group that also features Bo’ness United and Civil Service Strollers, setting up an exciting trio of ties.

Dougie Samuel’s side go into the game having won both league fixtures against Dorian Ogunro’s outfit however as far as cliches allow, the form goes out the window when it comes to cup campaigns.

Both gaffers have Spartans and Edinburgh Uni history of course, with Samuel having been at the helm for the Students before moving to Ainslie Park to the North Edinburgh side where Ogunro once plied his trade in the White and Red before going Green and Black at Peffermill.

The two also lead the table of longest serving Managers in the League, Samuel coming up for his 10th anniversary in June, a year longer in charge than his counterpart.

Squad news sees nothing to report pending a full compliment of negative Covid tests.

Kick-off at Peffermill 3G is at 3pm.
