Lowland League – Dishington swoops to beat the Hoops once againJamie Dishington came up trumps for the second time in a month to net a late winner against Celtic B and earn his side full points after Kevin Waugh pulled Spartans level on the stroke of half time. Spartans were boosted by the return to the starting line-up of Blair Carswell who took up his customary position between the sticks after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury. Blair Henderson, who netted a penalty at the weekend was on the bench whilst a Trialist took a place in the heart of the defence. The match started off at a frantic pace with the visitors looking lively, whilst Malt and Hops Man of the Match Cammy Russell forced the Celtic keeper into a fingertip save. Shortly before the half hour mark, it was the Glasgow side who took the lead. Joey Dawson providing a neat turn and finish to put the tourists up, much to the delight of the travelling support inside Ainslie Park. There was almost a perfect, quick response when a Spartans corner was headed goal bound by Euan Smith, only for the Celtic stopper to gather at the second attempt. As the respective coaching teams considered their half time team talks, Spartans grabbed an equaliser. Jamie Dishington’s initial cross put Mullen under pressure, only for him to push the effort over the bar. The resultant corner fell to Kevin Waugh who saw his downward header evade the Celtic rearguard and into the net. HT: The Spartans 1-1 Celtic B Blair Carswell gave the home support something to warm their hands about on a chilly night in North Edinburgh when, moments after the restart, he raced from his line to make a vital save to deny Moffat. The game started to open up as the half progressed, with the neat passing Celtic side creating a lot of possession but lacking penetration, whilst the hosts continued to press hard with Sean Brown and Cammy Russell causing the visiting defence a fair level of work. A brace of chances for Jamie Dishington saw him clatter the post then narrowly send a shot wide. With time racing away, Spartans were looking at a potential third draw on the bounce, but the talismanic midfielder was to come up with the goodies when it mattered. As the game edged towards the end of the ninety, a Mikey Allan long throw into the box was nodded on by Blair Henderson into the path of Jamie Dishington who pulled out a fantastic finish to beat Mullen and earn his side the win.
