Spartans stumble at home to BravesSpartans attempt to get back to winning ways was thwarted at home by a Braves team who showed the value of taking your chances. With Blair Carswell ruled out after a spell in hospital following a high boot in the previous game, it was a trialist who took over the gloves. With Michael Bolochoweckyj suspended and Mickey Allen unavailable it was a new look back five that took the field. With Spartans making most of the first half running Shots from Sam Jones and Jamie Dishington which failed to trouble the keeper where all there was to show for all the possession. This lack of penetration was brought to the fore just before half time, when the visitors scored on a rare foray into Spartans’ half. From a free-kick near halfway, the ball was sent long. It was not dealt with by the defence and Breadner was able to nip in front of the goalkeeper and score. HT: The Spartans 0-1 Caledonian Braves Two minutes into the second half and the Braves doubled their lead. Breadner was allowed to run toward the goal and when he remained unchallenged, he was able to shoot past the trialist keeper. Spartans were able to pull a goal back from penalty spot. Murrell scoring after a tackle on Dishington was deemed foul. The Braves Armstrong almost put the game to bed but his shot rebounded off the post with the keeper nowhere. Spartans continued to push and Sam Newman and Blair Atkinson were brought on to add some impetus to the attack. It was Newman who had Spartans best chance but his hooked shot landed on the top of the net rather than inside it. Despite much huffing and puffing there was no further action of note.
