Lowland League | Spartans hope to cling on to fine form as Star trek to EdinburghSpartans will go into Saturday’s encounter with Dalbeattie Star looking to make it a hat-trick of victories on the bounce as Dougie Samuel’s side seek to continue their return to winning ways in the Lowland League. With sixteen goals in the last four games, the route to goal has certainly returned for the Ainslie Park men, with no fewer than eight different scorers finding the back of the net. The much awaiting return of talisman Ian McFarland looks more of a reality following his spell on the sidelines and all eyes will be on the Gaffer to see if Subo will make it into the match day squad. Whilst Mikey Allan is still not 100% ready for return, the news from the treatment room is that he is not far away from rejoining the heart of the defence soon. Whilst the tale of the tape between the sides lends favour to the Edinburgh side, Star have had most success whilst on their travels to the Capital against Spartans, notably the 2014 semi final success in the South Region Challenge Cup and at the end of 2016/17, completing the double for the season which still remains the only two wins across the dozen fixtures so far. The Spartans would also like to take this opportunity to note the passing away last month of Star’s honorary president and arguably ‘Mr Dalbeattie Star’ Frankie Styles. Frankie always offered a warm welcome on our arrival at Islecroft Stadium and looked after us well. Tale of the Tape: Wins | Spartans 8 | Dalbeattie Star 2 | Draw 4 Goals | Spartans 35 | Dalbeattie Star 18 Biggest Win | 4-0 achieved 3 times – 2017/18, 2018/19 & 2019/20. |
