Samuel’s the man with the Spider plan to progress in Scottish CupThe Spartans face their toughest test of the competitive season so far when they host League 2 side Queens Park at Ainslie Park in Round 2 of the William Hill Scottish Cup. Gaffer Dougie Samuel has defender Michael Bolochoweckyi back in the squad for the visit of the Spiders to North Edinburgh in what will be the second meeting between the sides in the prestigious competition. Aaron Scott is also available for selection however Captain Adam Corbett sits this one out following his late dismissal at Deveronvale. Last season saw the clubs lock horns in the BetFred Cup at the National Stadium. It was all square at the interval before Jamie Dishington put Samuel’s side ahead. Gibson equalised before Roberts found the top corner with an unstoppable strike. Spartans thought they’d secured an opportunity to take the game into extra time when Bremner was upended in the box, but no spot kick was awarded and no VAR on hand to qualify the claims. The previous Scottish Cup tie was in January 2006 when City Park witnessed a giant-killing act when Spartans legend Donal Henretty scored the winner in the third round. Queen’s Park went ahead after six minutes through Alan Trouten, but Bob Mitchell cancelled out the lead before half time. Jonny Seeley then put Spartans ahead for the first time in the match before Henretty slotted home the third in the 67th minute. David Weatherston pulled a quick goal back for the tourists but Spartans held on to claim a place in the fourth round draw. Kick-off is at 3pm. Admission Prices: Adults £10, Concessions £7 and Under 16s can watch for Free. Season Tickets are NOT valid for this fixture however they will allow holders access to the café bar. |
