GeoSonic Lowland League: Spartans go nap to leave EduSport cinq without traceSpartans recorded their biggest win on the road this season with an emphatic 0-5 victory against EduSport Academy at Galabank Stadium. The home of Annan Athletic offered a fresh feel in the air, which had an aromatic rural tinge to it that cleared the nostrils of the couple of dozen or so inside the ground as the game got under way. There could have been an early decision for the Ref to make had Jamie Dishington not deployed a degree of honesty under a challenge inside the box and stayed upright as Spartans came out the traps with gusto. Blair Atkinson opened the scoring in the eight minute after he skirted down the touchline before working his way in towards the goal before unleashing an unstoppable drive that nestled in the back of the net. That lead was to double in the 24th minute as Michael Herd took the ball for a walk in the same area of the park and his effort was packed with a punch and put light between the sides. Ten minutes later, Jack Smith broke the high offside trap and he raced in before opening himself up to curl the ball round the exposed Academy stopper to make it 0-3. HT: EduSport Academy 0-3 Spartans Second half saw no changes at the break but it did see the Ref sprint back to the sheds as he’d inadvertently left a key component of the game in his room – yes, the ball. The ball found it’s way into the EduSport net once again shortly after the restart. Excellent play by Blair Atkinson allowed him to make space for a whipped in ball for David Greenhill who scooped high into the roof of the goal. It was almost five when Atkinson finished off another move only to see his joy short lived by the linesman’s flag and Carswell kept his clean sheet intact with a save at the other end. A trio of fresh Spartans players entered the fray, with Gary Cennerazzo, Stephen MacDonald and Jason Stevens coming off the bench as the Gaffer rested legs and offered game time all round. With the game edging into injury time, Spartans put the icing on the Edu cake when David Greenhill’s corner kick was forced home by MacDonald.
