Spartans Snippets: Fixture updates, Coochy Coo Subo, Women’s Footy & Charity Match news

Posted on Thursday, September 27th, 2018

Due to Civil Service Strollers welcoming Forres Mechanics to Christie Gillies Park in their Scottish Cup replay on Saturday, we have an idle weekend.  Also, on the 13th October, we are devoid of action too following our exit in the South Challenge Cup.  Finally, our GeoSonic Lowland League match against Vale of Leithen has been brought forward by just under 24 hours and will be played at Ainslie Park on Friday 7th December with a 7.30pm KO.

Our Under 20 head West on Friday night where they take on Edusport Academy in the latest of their Conference League outings.  The match takes place at Bothwellhaugh at Strathclyde Park, 8.00pm KO.  33 goals scored and just four conceded in their opening 6 competitive games this season so far shows Les Atkinson’s side have laid down the marker for what promises to be a great learning experience for everyone.

We are delighted to announce that, just hours after picking up the Man of the Match award after the East Kilbride match, Ian McFarland had further cause to celebrate with the birth of Lottie McFarland. Congratulations to all the family, Subo!

On Sunday, our Women’s Team look to continue their impressive post-break run when they entertain Forfar Farmington.  Debbi McCulloch’s side boosted their SWPL 1 survival cause with an emphatic 2-0 victory over Stirling University last weekend and with just three matches left and five points of a gap between them and Hamilton Academicals, a win will ensure top flight football remains at Ainslie Park in 2019.  Kick-off at Ainslie Park is at 1pm.  £5 Adults, £3 Concessions, Under 16s Free.

Also on Sunday, the Spartans Community Football Academy plays host to a charity match featuring a Hearts Legends XI in aid of Big Hearts and Marie Curie.  Gary Locke, Jimmy Sandison, Paul Gallagher to name but a few will be pulling on the boots one more time for this fundraiser.  £5 donation for adults with kids able to attend for free.  There will be an auction, raffle and a half-time competition for the kids too.  Kick-off at 4pm with gates open at 3pm.
