BetFred Cup: Spartans head to Paisley for Saints showdown

Posted on Monday, July 16th, 2018

Spartans head to Paisley on Tuesday night for the second round of fixtures in Group H of the BetFred Cup.

The hosts opened up their account with a 0-0 draw on the road in front of the TV cameras at Rugby Park against Kilmarnock, earning them two points in the process following a penalty shoot out win.

For Spartans, the trip sees them look to build on their own goal free BetFred Cup debut that saw them earn a point for a draw with Dumbarton ahead of an agonising spot-kick defeat.

It was an impressive start for the Ainslie Park side against Full Time opposition and that confidence can be taken into what will be Buddies newly appointed manager Alan Stubbs’ first home match in charge.

In the absence of the Dougie Samuel who continues to recouperate at home following a brief spell in hospital, Coach Derek Riddel will maintain his place in the dug-out looking to pull off a signifcant scalp against the newly promoted Premiership side.
