Under 20s: Smith brace sinks Shippy across the Forth

Posted on Saturday, October 21st, 2017

Spartans Under 20s round off a frantic five Development League days, picking up nine points in the process, with a 1-3 win on the road in Kelty against Burntisland Shipyard.

It’s been a decent start to his inaugural season under Les Atkinson for Jordan Smith and he continued his fine goal scoring form with a free kick on the edge of the box that found the top corner and left the keeper with the unenviable task of picking the ball out of the net.

Perhaps fatigue was starting to take its toll on the Ainslie Park lads legs and five minutes before the interval, Shippy drew level courtesy of a Fraser Gallagher strike.

Same time, same player in the second half saw Spartans regain the lead. Smith this time from open play to edge his side ahead against the well drilled Fifers.

With eight minutes left on the stopwatch, Lewis Hall put light between the sides when he was at hand to slot home what proved to be the goal that finally broke Burntisland’s stubborn resilience.
