Football Nation Cup: Holders take on the Fifers in Round 1It’s back to Cup action tonight at Ainslie Park where Spartans entertain East of Scotland side Kelty Hearts in the Football Nation Qualifying Cup First Round. The holders will set out their stall to retain the silverware won at Oriam in March against Hutchison Vale in what will be a tough task against the former Juniors side. The Fifers head across the Bridge following their emphatic 11-1 opening day win against Eyemouth as they look to begin their journey towards playing in a more regular capacity against Dougie Samuel’s men. Spartans head into the game on the back of a true grit last gasp winner on Saturday against bogey side Dalbeattie Star. It was Alan Brown who scored the injury time goal that earned the three points and he is looking forward to the latest challenge. “Kelty will come here looking to prove a point and show that they are able to compete in the Lowland League. It is a Cup Tie, so league form can go out the window, but I think we would always back ourselves to win at home.” Tonight’s game will be Spartans’ seventh in just 24 days and fresh legs in a grueling opening to the campaign is key. Blair Carswell is back in contention for a shift between the sticks whilst Dachi Khutsishvili is out the country. Kick-off is at 7.45pm. Admission £7 adults, £4 Concessions, Under 16s can watch for Free.
