Pre-Season: Honours shared in the rain with BroraSpartans finished their pre-season series of challenge matches with a 1-1 draw against Brora Rangers in the rain at Ainslie Park on Saturday. With starting places at stake in the opening Lowland League outing of the campaign next Saturday against Hawick Royal Albert at stake, Dougie Samuel’s side took on their Highland League counterparts looking to maintain the momentum gained so far. Sutherland was first up with a chance, however the Highlander’s shot went wide, then it was Guthrie’s turn at the opposite end with a snap-shot that went over the bar. Midway through the half Carswell was called into action, forced into making a timely save to deny MacLeod. HT: Spartans 0-0 Brora Rangers The second half continued in a similar vein – wet. Five minutes after the oranges (bit of nostalgia there kids, ask your parents), Allum got on the end of a Brown cross however keeper Malin managed to get a touch. There was little the stopper could do shortly after when Allum slid a telling pass through to Guthrie who knocked the ball into the net to give Spartans the lead. With just three minutes left on the clock, Brora equalised. Willamson found himself unmarked inside the box to head home a free-kick to level proceedings. FT: Spartans 1-1 Brora Rangers
