Wilson bags a brace as Spartans beat Beezer’s BroxburnA Scott Wilson double together with strikes from Blair Atkinson and Scott Maxwell saw Spartans continue their pre-season campaign with a 4-0 victory against Junior side Broxburn Athletic at Ainslie Park. There was to be no successful return for former Spartans favourite Jack Beesley in his first outing since his move to the West Lothian side. It was end to end stuff in a first half that offered more than your average pre-season fayre for the fans inside the ground and they didn’t have to wait long before they watched Andrew Stobie dive to push an attempt over the crossbar before Craig Stevenson saw his shot collected at the second attempt by Connor Wallace. Blair Atkinson was next to trouble Wallace with a curved free-kick round the wall from 20 yards, the keeper at full stretch to divert round the post. The Juniors were then handed an ideal opportunity to break the deadlock after Alan Brown was adjudged to have upended his man in the box. Michael Linton stepped up only to find Stobie in fine form, guessing the right way and pushing the ball to safety. Atkinson was inches away from taking his side into the sheds at the interval a goal to the good, only for his side footed strike to narrowly go past the wrong side of the post. HT: Spartans 0-0 Broxburn Athletic Two goals inside two second half minutes saw Spartans deliver a double whammy to put them on track for the win. Michael Herd’s flick found Atkinson who finished well, then shortly after the restart, Scott Maxwell’s thunderous drive from 25 yards left Wallace a mere spectator as it whizzed past him into the net. The hour mark saw a host of substitutions take place, include Scott Wilson who added to the tally in the 67th minute with a delightful drive from just outside the box. With two minutes left to play, it was a second for the substitute after being put into space by Paul Thomson and Wilson duly obliged by sending the ball home to cap a decent afternoon for Dougie Samuel’s side. FT: Spartans 4-0 Broxburn Athletic
