Talismanic duo depart Ainslie ParkThe perennial close season movement of players sees two fans favourites depart Ainslie Park for pastures new.Jack Beesley and Chris Townsley will ply their trade for Junior Super League outfit Broxburn Athletic after their respective and significant spells at Spartans. With both players now residing in West Lothian, the decision to move on is a logistically sound one for both who have made a significant impact during their Spartans careers. Beezer of course will continue to play an integral part in North Edinburgh football with his Development Role at the Academy so there’s no escape from Sammy just yet! Jack has had seven seasons including the season (along with Chris) where we won every cup at “domestic” level. Arguably Beezer’s highlight since then was his Scottish Cup goal that saw us defeat Morton in front of an ebullient Spartan Army in November 2014. His strike just one of 60 during 239 appearances. Despite a decent return in front of goal, the playmaker would be the first to note that he prefers making than scoring them! It comes as no surprise that he set up Grinchy for what was the final goal during his spell at the club . ‘Towner’ served the club 81 times over two spells. The talismanic defender’s joined the Club previously in 2010 from Alloa. After a successful season at Ainslie Park, which included a Man of the Match display in the South Challenge Cup victory over Edinburgh City, he headed back to the bright lights of the then SFL with Berwick Rangers before moving to East Stirlingshire. With 11 goals to his name, one casual observer noted that Chris could have been a cricketer going by the amount of sledging he does on the park! The Club would like to thank both players for their gargantuan contribution to the success of Spartans over the years and you never know, Once a Spartan – Always a Spartans – they might yet be back in a playing or coaching capacity! |
