Silverware secured as Spartans lift Lowland League CupGoals from Ross Allum, Blair Tolmie and Craig Stevenson secured Spartans’ second trophy of the season with a 3-0 win over BSC Glasgow in the Final of the Geosonic sponsored Lowland League Cup.It was a frantic start to the final with both sides looking to stamp their authority on proceedings early on however there was little to trouble the keepers in the opening exchanges. Then, with 10 minutes on the clock, Spartans took the lead. A defensive faux-pas by Matt Nevin in the BSC back division allowed Ross Allum to race in on goal to slot home past Stephen Barr into the empty net. Spartans had the stand-side Linesman to thank when he lifted his flag to deny Robert Jones from scoring an equaliser five minutes later. Both technical areas were certainly engrossed in the afternoon’s events, with the Fourth Official having to do his bit for NATO with a peacemaking mission to cool things down. Ross Allum was close to doubling his tally and the Spartans lead when he worked his way into the box, only for Paul Keys to put in a timely tackle. HT: Spartans 1-0 BSC Glasgow The second period didn’t live up to it’s more frantic first half cousin and it took a while for either side to carve open an clear cut opportunities. Jamie Dishington’s tenacity in midfield saw him win the ball and thread it to Ross Allum, only for the striker to be crowded out by a plethora of BSC defenders. With just under a quarter of the match to go, Spartans finally got one hand on the trophy when they extended their advantage. A Scott Maxwell free-kick from out wide found Ross Allum inside the penalty area and his net-bound shot was flicked home by the head of Blair Tolmie who was found poaching at the back post. The proverbial icing on the cake came with 5 minutes left on the clock. A touch of trickery and nifty footwork by Jack Beesley saw the playmaker slalom past defenders before squaring the ball to Craig Stevenson who tapped home from close range. FT: Spartans 3-0 BSC Glasgow Team: Carswell, Herd, Maxwell (Corbett 83), Tolmie, Greenhill, Beesley, Dishington (Hay 88), Allum (Saunderson 88), Stevenson, Brown, Townsley.
