Romance of the Cup – Sammy’s Spartans head to Gretna for Semi Final

Posted on Thursday, May 11th, 2017

Dougie Samuel takes his side to Gretna on Saturday looking for maximum engagement from his Spartans side as they look to topple the Raydale Park men for a spot in the Final of the Lowland League Cup.

Whilst the Dumfriesshire town is the home of romantic elopers, there will undoubtedly be no love lost between the two teams come 3pm as they battle it out for a Final berth, at Ainslie Park on the 21st May against either Civil Service Strollers or BSC Glasgow.

The tale of tape so far this season sees Spartans with two wins out of two, with goals from Greenhill, Allum and Townsley earning Samuel three points and a clean sheet when the sides met at the same venue in February.

Having already secured the Football Nation Cup in March, a second piece of silverware is high on the gaffer’s radar.  To aid his quest, the Spartan Army faithful will be delighted to note the return of Paul Thomson to the squad after recovering from injury.  Playmaker Alan Brown also travels whilst youngster Brandon Archibald is called up for the trip.

A limited number of seats are still available for the bus, which leaves Ainslie Park at 10.30am.  If you wish to travel with the team, please text Mark on 0776 4149767.
