Last gasp Geddes goal steals it for the StudentsSpartans nine match unbeaten run came to an end when they went down to a late Chris Geddes goal in challenging conditions at Ainslie Park in the Ferrari Packaging Lowland League.Chris Townsley was back in the starting line-up for Dougie Samuel’s side in the second game against University opposition in as many weeks. The opening forty five minutes were largely unmemorable, as the sweeping rain and bitingly cold wind made it a tough ask for two footballing sides to put on a show in front of the hardy souls who had taken their seats as far to the back of the stand as possible. It was a first half notable for its lack of notable talking points, with Ross Allum’s power strike that saw Marshall pull off an equally impressive save the pick of the exchanges. Scott Maxwell came close too, with his twist and turn solo effort passing the wrong side of the post. HT: Spartans 0-o Stirling University With no let up in the inclement conditions during the interval, the sides continued in vain to keep the ball on the park and stay out of the Referee’s jotter. As time raced on and the game finely poised at the stalemate, Ross Allum found himself on the angle as he raced in behind the Student’s defence. His shot could only flash across the face of the goal, much to the frustration of the new signing. Then, with just three minutes left, up popped Geddes who crashed home the winner via the underside of the crossbar to give Shelley Kerr’s side victory.
