William Hill Scottish Cup: Spartans out to create Cup shock at St MirrenAfter being frozen out at the weekend due to an unplayable surface, Spartans head to the Paisley 2021 Stadium for the rearranged William Hill Scottish Cup 3rd Round clash against Championship side St Mirren on Tuesday night. Both sides will be aware of their potential 4th Round opponents ahead of kick-off, with the draw being made on Monday evening at 6.35pm. It’s fair to say that an extra incentive isn’t required as motivation to win however the lure of a potential ‘glamour tie’ might offer a renewed focus on what promises to be a tough encounter. Spartans head into the game on the back of a morale boosting victory over East Kilbride, whilst the hosts remain at the wrong end of the Championship, still seeking their first league victory of the campaign. Midfield playmaker Alan Brown knows that the bookies won’t have Spartans down as favourites, however the ‘underdog’ tag suits ahead of the biggest game of the season so far. “Its an age-old cliché I know, but form really does go out the window in these games. We are massive underdogs and of course they are two leagues above us. Last week’s win was a welcome boost for confidence throughout the camp and it’s given us a wee bit more belief as a unit. I think we first and foremost enjoy the occasion of playing in a decent stadium, embrace it and work together. You never know, it’s cup football and shocks can and do happen. “We’ve got senior players who have been in the game at a higher level and others who experienced wins a couple of years back v Morton & Clyde. We’ve got to be confident but let’s not forget the calibre of the hosts, including John Sutton and David Clarkson, so whilst we are out to cause an upset, St Mirren will be equally keen to get a win in front of their own fans.” The match kicks-off at 8pm.
