The Road to Hampden: We’re heading to Huntly

Posted on Wednesday, October 19th, 2016

The perennial Road to Hampden kicks-off this weekend for The Spartans as Dougie Samuel’s side head to Huntly for the 2nd Round tie of the William Hill sponsored silverware.

Both sides will be out to use Saturday’s cup clash to give their season a welcome boost and it promises to be yet another tough Highland v Lowland encounter.

The teams fell to their geographical opposition in last year’s competition – Huntly to our Edinburgh neighbours Lothian Thistle in a 3rd Round replay at Saughton, whilst it was a dramatic last minute header that saw Spartans become unstuck in Elgin in the previous round.

Admission prices are £8 for adults and £5 for concessions for terracing.  An additional £1 to sit in the stand (270 seats).

The Huntly Social Club is right next to Christie Park and will be open and our hosts have put up the ‘all welcome’ signs.  They don’t sell food but there are cafes a short walk into the Square.

The nearest railway station to the ground is Huntly itself, which is located half a mile south-east of Christie Park, roughly a 10-minute walk.

Spartans Scottish Cup Stats:

  • Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie will be the 58th for Spartans.
  • It is the 15th fixture against Highland opposition.  There have been 6 wins apiece with 2 draws.
  • Spartans recorded their biggest Scottish Cup win against Highland outfit Fort William – a 0-6 win on the road in 2007.
