Spartans look for Welfare benefits in old foes fixture

Posted on Friday, October 7th, 2016

Spartans will be keen to bounceback at the first opportunity after last weekend’s late loss at Dalbeattie when they head to Rosewell to take on old adversaries Whitehill Welfare in the Ferrari Packaging Lowland League on Saturday.

In what seldom disappoints the paying public, the latest in a long history of fixtures between the two old foes offers different opportunities for each of the clubs come the full time whistle.

The home side have lost their last two league games by the same two goal margin and will be desperate not to pick up a hat-trick of back-to-back domestic defeats in a row.

Dougie Samuel will be without the suspended Craig Johnston for the short trip to the Mid Lothian town where a victory is vital to keep up with leaders East Kilbride who remain undefeated after ten games so far.

Samuel is boosted by the arrival of Jack Hay who signed from Gala in midweek.  The 22 year old striker joins Spartans from the Borders side and has been training this week with his new team mates ahead of the game.  Dean Horribine returns to the squad whilst Alan Brown and Jack Beesley on the brink of a return to full fitness.  Keith Murray remains on the treatment table.
