IRN BRU Cup: Spartans head for cross-border battle at Berwick

Posted on Monday, August 1st, 2016

Spartans aim to keep the fizz in their IRN BRU Cup campaign when they embark upon a cross-border challenge against Ladbrokes League 2 side Berwick Rangers at Shielfield on Tuesday evening.

Boosted by their Lowland League opening day victory over University of Stirling last Friday night, Dougie Samuel’s men will be keen to build on their win when they take on John Coughlin’s side looking to bounceback from back-to-back BetFred Cup defeats against Morton & Kilmarnock.

When the two teams met at the same venue in February 2015, it was the Wee Gers who came out on top by a solitary goal in the Scottish Cup 5th Round replay after Ally MacKinnon’s late strike at Ainslie Park earned a second bite at the proverbial cherry.

Speaking ahead of the knock-out tie that will be played to a finish on the night, Captain David Greenhill said, “The boys are looking forward to going down to Berwick and we know we’ll have to take our ‘A’-game with us.

“I know ‘Cough’ well, in fact I’ve worked with him for a few years actually.  There are also a handful of ex-Berwick players in the changing room which makes it even more interesting!

“Its always good playing a team higher as you always want to go out there and prove yourself that you can go out there and compere at that level.”

The match kicks-off at 7.45pm.  Admission Prices are £12 Adults & £8 Concessions.
