GroundHop stop at Ainslie Park as Race for Second Place heats upGroundHop stop at Ainslie Park as Race for Second Place heats upIt’s the ‘Race for Second Place’ at Ainslie Park as Spartans and Stirling University lock horns in fourth game of a jam-packed Saturday in the Ferrari Packaging Lowland League. Groundhop UK Day 2 sees Shelley Kerr’s Students head to North Edinburgh in a pivotal game that could see the winners seize control as the season enters the business end of the campaign. The sides finished all square back in the opening weekend, Keith Murray grabbing an important equaliser in a 1-1 draw. Some 20 games or so down the line, the sides remain equally as neck and neck in terms of league position with the visitors narrowly on top by a point, albeit with a game in hand. After their midweek travels to Castle Douglas where they picked up another 3 points on the road, Spartans head into the game on the back of an eight match unbeaten run with Dean Horribine the catalyst in front of goal, scoring 11 goals in his last nine outings since the turn of the year. Kick-off is at the later time of 5pm as part of a busy day that kicks-off at Rosewell in the morning.
The weekend begins in Gretna on Friday night where Dalbeattie are the visitors for a 7pm KO and it comes to a climax in the capital on Sunday in a midday clash between Edinburgh Uni and Selkirk at Peffermill. Meanwhile, our East of Scotland side play their Stirling Uni counterparts in Saturday afternoon’s curtain raiser. It’s a taxing fourth game in eight days for Colin Tomassi’s men who have averaged four goals per outing across their unbeaten run of a quartet of league and cup matches. Kick-off is 2.15pm. |
