Happy New Year! Edinburgh Derby kicks-off 2016

Posted on Friday, January 1st, 2016

After the Hogmanay Fireworks over the Capital, the Edinburgh footballing year gets set to go off with a bang as Spartans welcome ‘first footers’ Edinburgh City to Ainslie Park on Saturday in the New Year Derby.

The inaugural and incumbent champions go head to head in the Ferrari Packaging Lowland League match off the day with three vital points on offer in what promises to be a enthralling encounter in the north of the city.

Spartans manager Dougie Samuel has been offered a timely boost with the return of talismanic Ally Mackinnon to the side.  The Captain has made a full recovery from injury and he played in both closed doors friendlies during the festive period and joins the squad for Saturday’s game.

League Leaders City make the short trip from Meadowbank looking to maintain the gap at the top of the table as the season enters into the back straight.

The match kicks-off at 3pm.  Admission: Adults £5, Concessions £3, Under 16s FREE.
