Wise men of Spartans look to shine brightly against the Star

Spartans will be looking to end 2015 with a win on the road as they head to Kirkcudbrightshire to take on Dalbeattie Star in the final Lowland League game of the year.

In the corresponding clash at Ainslie Park earlier this season, Spartans were forced to fight all the way after Star mounted a late comeback and Manager Dougie Samuel knows they will be tough opposition on their own patch.

He said, “Since the Lowland League came about, Star have offered us difficult games each time we’ve played them.  The pitch is likely to be heavy on Saturday therefore it’ll be a different type of game for us obviously than playing on the synthetic surface at home.  We’ve worked hard at training this week to adjust our style accordingly if we are to win this huge game for us.”

That game back in early August saw David Greenhill’s double strike instrumental in the 4-2 victory however it also marked Aaron Murrell’s first Lowland League goal.  Since then, the teenage strike sensation has found the net 23 times plus 5 in pre-season friendlies too.

The hosts head into the game following an idle weekend due to inclement conditions in the South West and will be looking to use home advantage in order to build on their current 6th place standing in the table.

The match at Islecroft Stadium kicks-off at the slightly earlier time of 2pm.
