Spartans Snippets: The weekend that was – and the week ahead

Posted on Monday, September 14th, 2015

Last weekend saw our Ferrari Packaging Lowland League fixture at Threave Rovers postponed as the team bus made it as far as the West End of Edinburgh.   The persistent rain fall in Castle Douglas ensuring the pitch fell foul to the inclement conditions and was called off during a morning inspection.  No date has been set for the rescheduled game.

The East of Scotland side also had an enforced lay-off due to their opponents Lothian Thistle playing Girvan in their Scottish Cup reply.  The Edinburgh side winning 2-5 on the road.

Our Saturday Amateurs came undone against a strong Tollcross Thistle side at Saughton Enclosure, losing out 7-1 in the Scottish Amateur Cup 1st Round replay after their pulsating 3-3 draw at Ainslie Park the previous week.

The Under 20s came back from 0-2 down against Cumbernauld Colts on Friday night, only for a Harry Girdwood late double to earn Les Atkinson’s side a draw.

This coming weekend, there’s Lowland League action at Ainslie Park when BSC Glasgow head to the capital on Saturday for a 3pm KO.

Meanwhile, there’s a flip in fixtures for the East of Scotland side who will head to East Lothian where Ormiston will be the hosts.

Finally, on Sunday, the Under 20s will play in the Little Big Shot Scottish Youth Cup, Second Round against Edusport Academy.  The teams have already met this season, with the young Spartans securing a 0-3 win.   Last season’s competition saw the side defeat Partick Thistle before succumbing to a strong Rangers side at Ibrox.

So, pencil us in your diaries, bag your brownie points and join the Spartan Army this weekend!
