Spartans out to make gaffer King of the Castle Douglas at Threave

Posted on Thursday, September 10th, 2015

Spartans are on the road for the second time in just four days as they head to Castle Douglas to take on Threave Rovers at Meadow Park in the Ferrari Packaging Lowland League.

Douglas Samuel’s side make the journey to Dumfries on the back of Wednesday’s 0-4 victory over Cumbernauld Colts in a game where the Ainslie Park men played some of their finest football of the campaign so far.  The win also saw Blair Carswell record a hat-trick of clean sheets after successive shut-outs against Edinburgh University and Burntisland Shipyard.

The Spartans faithful will be looking to Aaron Murrell to continue his goal scoring start to the season. The 17 year old has netted 12 times in competitive games since his move up from the successful Under 20s side of last year and Samuel has been impressed with the striker so far, “Aaron’s a young player who’s got the potential to play at a higher level and go all the way. If we can keep him for two years we’ll have done well.”

Threave will be keen to record their first win since their opening day victory away to Whitehill in a bid to close the gap on second bottom side Vale of Leithen.
